Dear Joe,

What a kick to be in touch with you after all these years.

I think back on my teenage years when I was studying with you with fondness even though I always had the feeling, and still do, that I didn't practice enough. Even so, you taught and inspired me to play the accordion pretty well. So well, in fact, that I tackled the piano part with a piano trio playing the Schubert trio in D. Looking back, it surprises me that I played such ambitious music, but you always pushed me in that direction,k and I'm grateful for the shove.

Most of all you taught me to always strive to play better, reach for a new level, and find the music in the notes.

Although, I dropped out of music for several years except for occasional revisits, I've taken your example and ideals with me. Now I'm passing them on to my younger children. Bennett, 10, is a budding pianist (Bach Prelude: Celmenti Sonatina in C), and Julia, 7, is "smokin" with Suzuki," She has acute hearing, perfect pitch, and is always the final authority on whether or not her violin is in tune.

Anyway, I thought you would like to know you gave me something good, and I'm doing my best to pass it on.

All the best,

Gerald Tyson

Dear Mr. Soprani,

Thank you so much for taking time from your very busy schedule to come to Little Flower High School on September 12, 2002 to perform and lecture to our music students about the delights of the accordion. The young people were very appreciative and grateful for your demonstration of the operation functions of the accordion. Also, your magnificent performance of pieces that were traditionally written for the accordion and the selections that were your personal arrangements brightened the faces of the Little Flower music students.

It is always a pleasure to have such a professional person come into the school and reinforce the teachers' philosophy and techniques on musicality and the entire atmosphere of performance.

We are looking forward to a return visit in the near future.

Sincerely,

Mr. Danile Panchelli - Music Director
Sister Therese, IHM - Fine Arts Coordinator

Although I had heard and admired Joe's accordion playing at events such as the Opera company of Philadelphia's Production of "La Traviata," I did not get to meet him and see him in a recital environment until he performed for the Matinee Musical Club of Philadelphia (of which I am a Board Member), at the 6 October 1999 Opening Luncheon and Concert.

At that time, Joe played a formal classical recital for an audience of over 110 members and guests. The audience was overwhelmed by Joe's concert.

Based on this, I had Joe play for a Gala Luncheon I hosted on 12 December 2000 for about 50 Senior individuals who had just attended a midday recital at Philadelphia's Academy of Music.

Joe's musical presentation was not only totally professional... but the verbal interaction he had with the attendees was extremely well received (he spoke about his career and included musical pieces that were relevant.)

His talent is extraordinary: everyone who listens to his playing is amazed that anyone can play classical music so beautifully and in such an exciting manner on an accordion.

But, more important: Joe is caring about his audience. He adjusts to their interests and ensures that they not only have a good time but that they walk away a little more educated.
